Earthquake Rating Clarity - Setting the Record Straight

Let’s squash the rumours; The Tavistock Hotel is not at risk of collapse or being demolished. Like many buildings across NZ, it has been officially labelled ‘Earthquake-Prone’. A legal term meaning structural improvements are required over time to meet updated standards.

✔  We have until 2032 to complete the structural updates

✔ There is little current risk - Otherwise, the council wouldn’t allow the operation

✔  We are here to stay for another 150 years (at least!)

The Pub - Your local, Reimagined

We’re proud to announce that the bar at the Tavi has officially reopened under a new name: THE PUB. Owners Kendall and Todd have transformed it into the go-to spot for great food, cold drinks, and good company.

Scaffolding is up

Scaffolding up and exterior work continues

Work continues on the exterior of the majestic old building. The scaffolding is up and locals may have noticed the team with paint brushes in hand. This is an ongoing project that aims to bring not only the face but inside of this Central Hawkes Bay landmark. Waipukurau deserves this grand ol’ hotel and we are working as hard as possible to bring her back to life.

The Tavistock Hotel currently has rooms for a 7-day minimum stay available and the ability to rent the old breakers part of the building as a function room. There is much more on its way with “The Tavi” and the best way to follow our progress is to follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TavistockHotel. We will be keeping you updated with all news and aim to bring The Tavistock Hotel back to its original glory.
